DACCO SCI, INC., has teamed with Inhibitrol to test corrosion inhibitors from extracts of tobacco plants and other phytochemical materials. The extracts offer several advantages over traditional inhibitors, such as chromates:
The addition of tobacco extracts to salt water dramatically reduces the corrosion and coating degradation of painted steel and aluminum.

The plant extracts are effective in a number of environments and conditions.

In strongly acidic solutions used to clean rust and mill scale from steel, the acid also attacks the metal. Use of the metal reduces weight loss due to metal dissolution and provides a shiny surface. |
